favourite Vietnamese restaurant in Toronto. It's called Song Que Cafe and it's everything you could hope for in a great Pho restaurant: amazing food, over air-conditioned and cramped eating spaces, awful decorations, mint green walls, and waiters that wear tops to match the interiors.
We discovered it a few weeks ago through a friend of a friend and have been back at least once a week ever since. It's a little on the pricey side for Pho, £8.20 is more than I've ever paid before for a bowl of noodles, but it's the closest thing I can find to heaven in soup form in this city so I would be willing to pay twice as much!
They have all my favourite dishes on the menu, all the right sauces, the food comes super quick and even better, it's a short cycle ride from my house. Adam and I have been meeting there after work lately, all sweaty from battling our way through traffic on our bikes and really looking forward to a cool beer before we tuck into a steaming bowl of noodles.
I recommend the fresh tofu spring rolls and a number 143 - that's what I'm eating up there. The steak is pretty raw, but the trick is to use your chopsticks to shove the steak below the noodles to cook a bit more. Once cooked to perfection they'll start to float to the top and you will have perfect, non-chewy strips of steak with your noodles.
I've finally found my Pho home away from home and I'm not kidding when I say that the first time I ate there I almost cried tears of happiness.
